Eupatorium perfoliatum (boneset) is classically given for fever with aching as if the bones were broken — influenza-type soreness, thirst, and restlessness. Indian pages sell it for dengue. dengue care is fluids, paracetamol, and watching the warning days. A 30C globule is not an antiviral.

This article is for people holding an SBL or Schwabe Eupatorium 30 / 200 bottle, or searching eupatorium perfoliatum uses. It is not a protocol for dengue shock, malaria, or COVID pneumonia.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Full name | Eupatorium perfoliatum (common boneset, thoroughwort) |
| Also written | Eupatorium, Eup-per, boneset |
| Source | Fresh flowering herb, North American Asteraceae |
| Common Indian forms | Globules 30C, 200C; occasional Q |
| Mother tincture (Q) | Alcoholic herb extract — boneset tea is a different, older folk use |
| Main classical uses | Influenza with severe bone pain; aching eyeballs; thirst |
| Keynote | Pains as if bones broken; knows the bed is too hard |
| Usual home potency | 30C, 3–5 globules, 2–3 times a day for a few days |
| Safety in one line | 30C has no plant chemistry; dengue still needs platelets watched and NSAIDs avoided |
Boneset is a wetland plant whose paired leaves look pierced by the stem (perfoliatum). Native American and 19th-century American folk use was as a sweaty fever tea. Homeopathy kept the breakbone picture.
Boericke: bone pains, influenza, aching in the limbs as if the bones were broken, sore eyeballs, chill 7–9 a.m., thirst before the chill, vomiting of bile, sweat that relieves everything except the headache. Bryonia wants to lie still; Eupatorium is sore and restless.
CCR H (AYUSH) dengue fact sheets list it among frequently indicated medicines for that pain picture. That is genus-epidemicus tradition, not a chapter.
Crude boneset tea is not the same as 30C. Pyrrolizidine-alkaloid concerns exist for some Eupatorium species; do not improvise garden teas for a febrile child.
There is no -quality randomised trial showing that Eupatorium 30C treats or prevents dengue, influenza, or malaria.
Two large open-label, non-randomised community cohorts from Delhi slums (2017 outbreak; publications 2023–24) reported lower incidence of laboratory-confirmed dengue and acute febrile illness in people given weekly Eupatorium 30C plus education, versus education alone. Authors themselves asked for replication and noted limited generalisability. Open-label parallel cohorts cannot prove prophylaxis the way a randomised, blinded trial can. Do not skip mosquito control or medical review because of those papers.
review
: no specific antiviral. Rest, fluids, paracetamol. No aspirin, no ibuprofen. Watch the 24–48 hours after the fever falls. Warning signs: belly pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, blood in stool or vomit, extreme restlessness or drowsiness. Those are hospital signs.
Everything below is classical indication, not a trial result.
Breakbone influenza. Sore from hair to heel; the mattress feels lumpy; eyeballs ache; thirst; a dry, painful cough. See also cough and Ferrum phos for an earlier, less aching fever.
The dengue picture. The same bone-break language is why Indian chemists sell it every monsoon. The picture can match. The disease still needs a NS1/IgM decision, a blood count, and a plan for the critical phase. Eupatorium does not raise platelets.
Intermittent fever in the old books. 7–9 a.m. chill. That is not a malaria diagnostic. Fever after travel or in a malaria area needs a smear or RDT.
What it is not for: a dengue vaccine, an antiviral, a platelet transfusion, or a reason to take ibuprofen “plus homeopathy.”
| Potency | What is in it | Classically chosen for | How it is usually taken | Supervision |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q | Herbal extract in alcohol | Folk-style fever; not first-line here | Drops only if a practitioner owns it | Avoid garden teas in children |
| 30C | No measurable plant | Everyday Indian bottle | 3–5 globules, 2–3 times daily, few days | Self-care only for mild flu-like aches |
| 200C | Empty | Epidemic / constitutional | Single or infrequent doses | Registered homeopath |
Weekly “prophylaxis” globules during a dengue season are a public-health experiment, not a personal mosquito net.
This is the claim that does the most harm.
Severe dengue often declares itself as the fever settles. Families relax. That is when belly pain, vomiting and bleeding appear. is blunt: go to a clinic or emergency room. A 30C bottle on the bedside does not watch a haematocrit.
Ferrum phos is the early flushed fever; Eupatorium is the bone-sore influenza picture. Neither is a dengue ward.
| What people fear | What is actually true |
|---|---|
| Liver injury from 30C | Not realistic from the pellet |
| NSAID bleeding in dengue | Real — and not caused by Eupatorium; caused by the ibuprofen you added |
| “Community study proved prevention” | Over-read. Open-label cohorts, not RCT standard |
| Drug interaction at 30C | No plausible interaction from ~12C up |
Delay and NSAIDs. The harms that matter. See homeopathy side effects.
| Remedy | Picture | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Eupatorium | Breakbone, sore eyeballs, thirsty | Influenza-type bone ache |
| Bryonia | Wants to lie perfectly still; dry | Pain worse from any motion |
| Gelsemium | Heavy, drowsy, thirstless | Drooping lids, no bone-break language |
| Ferrum phos | Early, flushed, before ache peaks | First hours of a mild fever |
| Rhus tox | Restless, better moving | Aching that eases on motion |
Do not sit on Eupatorium 30 if you notice:
