Acidum phosphoricum (phosphoric acid) is classically given when the mind tires before the body — apathy after grief, exams, a long fever, or fluid loss. A 30C globule is not a phosphate supplement and not a treatment for diabetes. Persistent fatigue needs a blood test, not another bottle.

This article is for people holding an SBL, Reckeweg or Schwabe Acidum phos 30 / 200 bottle, or searching acidum phosphoricum uses. It is not a protocol for depression, type 1 diabetes, or unexplained weight loss.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Full name | Acidum phosphoricum (phosphoric acid) |
| Also written | Phosphoricum acidum, Acid phos, Phos ac, Ph-ac |
| Source | Diluted phosphoric acid — a mineral acid, not a plant |
| Common Indian forms | Globules 30C, 200C; liquid dilution; occasional Q |
| Mother tincture (Q) | Material acid in alcohol/water — not a kitchen brew |
| Main classical uses | Mental debility first; grief; growing youths; loss of fluids |
| Keynote | Indifferent, cannot find the word; diarrhoea that does not exhaust as expected |
| Usual home potency | 30C, 3–5 globules, 1–3 times a day for a short course |
| Safety in one line | 30C is empty of acid; Q is corrosive chemistry if misused; delay of real disease is the harm |
Boericke opens the monograph: the common acid debility, mental first, physical later. Young people who have grown fast and been overtaxed; after acute illness, excesses, grief, or loss of vital fluids. Apathy. Impaired memory. A settled indifference that is not the same as agitated anxiety or the sighing of Ignatia.
It is phosphoric acid, the same family of chemistry that flavours cola in food-grade amounts. It is not elemental phosphorus, not a bone-building tablet, and not the sodium-phosphate load used in some sports studies. Those papers do not validate a 30C pellet.
Do not “home brew” phosphoric acid in alcohol, as some old pages suggest. Concentrated acid burns. Pharmacies sell medicated globules.
There is no reliable randomised trial showing that Acidum phosphoricum treats fatigue, grief, diarrhoea, or diabetes.
A small 2011 DUT dissertation (30 male cyclists, single 200CH dose) reported short-term changes in heart rate and oxygen use and no psychological benefit. That is not a treatment licence for everyday tiredness.
’s approach to fatigue is to look for anaemia, thyroid disease, depression, sleep apnoea, medicines and infection. That work-up is the ground floor.
Boericke mentions diabetes in the opening list. That is 19th-century language. It is not the current diagnostic pathway. See diabetes and homeopathy.
Everything below is classical indication, not a trial result.
Mental exhaustion. Cannot collect thoughts; wrong word; indifferent to things that used to matter; after grief that has gone quiet rather than noisy. Compare Ignatia (acute sobs, lump in throat) and Natrum mur (closed grief, consolation worse).
After fluids and growth. Students, rapidly growing teenagers, people emptied by diarrhoea, semen loss, or a long fever. The old phrase “loss of vital fluids” is poetic, not a lab value.
Painless or easy diarrhoea. Boericke’s gut: watery stool that seems out of proportion to how little it prostrates — until the mental fog is noticed. Still not a reason to skip ORS. See diarrhoea.
Hair and bones in the old books. Hair falls after illness; periosteal pains. Hair-fall work-up is in hair fall. “Useful in pain of cancer” in Boericke is a 1927 line, not oncology.
What it is not for: a daily energy drink, an antidepressant, an insulin, a GERD acid (the name misleads shoppers), or a phosphate supplement.
| Potency | What is in it | Classically chosen for | How it is usually taken | Supervision |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q / low X | Material phosphoric acid | Rare; not a tonic | Only if a practitioner owns the chemistry | Do not improvise |
| 30C | No measurable acid | Everyday Indian bottle | 3–5 globules, 1–3 times daily, short course | Self-care if the person is otherwise well |
| 200C / 1M | Empty | Constitutional / grief case | Single dose, then wait | Registered homeopath |
30 is not weaker 200. Higher C is more dilute. Q is not “stronger 30.”
If the tiredness is grief that will not lift, or talk of not wanting to live, that is mental-health care. KIRAN is 1800-599-0019.
Two mix-ups.
Diabetes. Old materia medica lists “diabetes” among acid-debility states. Diagnosis in 2026 is A1c, fasting glucose, OGTT. Keep insulin and metformin. Acidum phos 30 cannot lower glucose.
Phosphate. Sports papers on sodium phosphate are about grams of salt, not a 30C. Do not read them as proof.
| What people fear | What is actually true |
|---|---|
| Acid burns from 30C | Not realistic |
| Acid burns from improvised Q | Real if someone handles concentrated acid |
| “Safe in pregnancy” as a blanket yes | Unknown; alcohol in liquids matters |
| Drug interaction at 30C | No plausible interaction from ~12C up |
Delay. Fatigue plus weight loss, night sweats, a falling haemoglobin, or a high sugar is not a remedy problem. See homeopathy side effects.
| Remedy | Picture | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Acidum phos | Mental tiredness first; quiet apathy | After grief, study, fluids, growth |
| Ignatia | Acute, spasmodic grief | Sobbing, sighing, lump in throat |
| Natrum mur | Closed grief, hammer headaches | Consolation worse; salt craving |
| Cydonia | Retail “tonic” | Weak classical picture; do not swap them as hormones |
| Picric acid | Brain fag, wants to drop the exam | Heavy mental overwork with dread of failure |
Do not sit on Acidum phos 30 if you notice:
