Nux vomica 30 is the usual home potency of Strychnos nux-vomica (poison nut). Homeopaths classically give it for hangover, ineffectual constipation, heartburn after coffee, alcohol or spice, and a short-tempered, overstimulated person. A properly made 30C contains no measurable strychnine. The seed, herbal extract and mother tincture (Q) can kill. Do not swallow “nux vomica powder” from a general store.

This article is for people searching nux vomica 30 uses, Nux 200, or Nux vomica Q. It is not a licence to treat chest pain, black vomit, or bowel obstruction with globules.

Nux vomica is prepared from the seed of Strychnos nux-vomica, a tree native to India and Southeast Asia. Boericke calls the type oversensitive, irritable, and addicted to stimulants — coffee, wine, tobacco, highly seasoned food, a sedentary indoor life.
It is not Ayurvedic kuchla powder, a gym “nerve tonic,” or a cancer extract. and treat crude nux vomica as unsafe**.
Boiron-style 30C labels (see) market temporary relief of upset stomach from overindulgence, heartburn and irritability, and print that claims are traditional, not FDA evaluated.
Industrial “total alkaloid extraction” recipes that still sit on many Indian blogs — including our old page — describe how to concentrate strychnine. That is manufacturing chemistry, not a home dose. We are not repeating it as a method.
There is no reliable clinical trial that Nux vomica 30 treats GERD, constipation, migraine, infertility, diabetes, influenza or cancer. The Cell-culture talk about brucine and tumours is not a human cancer treatment.
If a page lists “studies show nux vomica helps diabetes / flu / nerve pain,” check whether they used seed extract, not 30C. Those are different products with opposite safety profiles.
The picture is excess and straining, not weakness.
Digestion. Heartburn and sour risings after coffee, alcohol, rich or spicy food; nausea in the morning; a belly that feels stone-hard after a big dinner. Ineffectual urging to stool — frequent trips, little result — is the constipation keynote, not a large dry stool that needs Alumina. Useful in the GERD differential when lifestyle, not night-only sour vomiting, is the story. Robinia is the night-acid remedy.
Hangover. The textbook morning-after: headache, retching, irritable, worse for noise and light, wants to be left alone. Hydration still comes first. This is not a reason to drink more.
Mind. Impatient, fault-finding, oversensitive to noise, odour, light and contradiction. The person who works late, stimulants on the desk, then cannot sleep because the mind will not shut. Ignatia is grief and contradiction; Nux is irritation and excess.
Cold that starts from sitting in a draught after being overheated, with sneezing and a stuffed nose at night, better in the open air — Boericke’s coryza. Not every cold.
Men’s complaints and piles appear in the old books as part of the sedentary, constricted picture. They are not proven treatments for erectile dysfunction or surgical piles.
Migraine with gastric aura is a classical pairing, not a replacement for a medical work-up of new or thunderclap headache.
| Form | What is in it | Typical use | Repeat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q (mother tincture) | Alcoholic extract of seed — strychnine risk | Not a home experiment | Do not self-prescribe |
| 6C | Trace possible | Mild functional gastric acute | Short course |
| 30C | No measurable alkaloid | Acute hangover, dietary reflux, ineffectual constipation | 3–5 globules, 2–3 times, then stop |
| 200C | Empty of seed | Recurrent or constitutional Nux picture | Not daily. One dose, wait days to weeks |
| 1M | Empty of seed | Deep prescribing | Registered homeopath only |
Nux vomica 30 uses is the acute, self-care search. Nux vomica 200 uses is not “stronger hangover medicine.” Kent-style practice repeats 200 rarely. Daily 200C is how people manufacture aggravations.
OTC 30C directions vary (three pills daily on one label; five pellets three times daily on another). We treat 30C as a short acute, not a month-long course.
Properly made 30C / 200C. Cannot cause strychnine spasms as strychnine. Reported effects are the usual homeopathic set: a brief sharpening of the gastric or irritable picture, lactose/sucrose in the vehicle, ethanol in liquids. See homeopathy side effects.
Q, powders, Ayurvedic kuchla, “nux vomica extract.” This is strychnine territory. lists jaw stiffness and breathing failure. Emergency care / poison information at once — in India, 108 / 112. Do not wait on a globule.
Never use crude nux vomica in liver disease, pregnancy, or as a daily tonic. ’s “no one should take nux vomica” applies to the material drug.
| Remedy | Picture | Not Nux when |
|---|---|---|
| Nux vomica | Excess, spice/coffee/alcohol, ineffectual urging, irritable | The person is grief-struck or chilly and timid |
| Ignatia | Recent grief, sighing, lump in throat, contradictory | The driver is stimulants and overwork |
| Lycopodium | Bloating after a few mouthfuls, 4–8 pm, right-sided | Nux is more spasm and temper than 4 pm liver fullness |
| Robinia | Violent night acidity, sour vomiting in bed | Nux is dietary and irritable more than night-only |
| Pulsatilla | Rich food, no thirst, changeable, wants company | Nux wants to be left alone and is chilly in a different way |
| Coffea | Sleepless from joy or racing ideas, one extra coffee | Nux sleeplessness is irritation after excess |
