Blatta orientalis 30 is prepared from the Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis, black beetle). Homeopaths classically give it for asthma with a lot of pus-like mucus, especially in stout people, and when the damp season brings a rattling chest. A properly made 30C contains no insect. Cockroach is a real asthma allergen in house dust — that is environmental medicine, not a reason to eat a bug. Blatta is not an antibiotic, not an antiviral, and not a malaria treatment.

This article is for people searching blatta orientalis uses, blatta for asthma, or blatta Q. It is not a protocol for stopping an inhaled steroid, treating malaria, or a silent-chest attack.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Source | Oriental cockroach, Blatta orientalis |
| Also written | Blatta, Blatta or., black beetle (homeopathic) |
| 30C / 200C | Empty of insect if made properly |
| Q / low x | Material insect extract — not a home experiment |
| Main classical uses | Asthma with copious mucus; stout, damp-weather pictures |
| Usual home potency | 30C after medical asthma care is in place |
| Safety in one line | Inhaler first. Cockroach exposure can worsen allergic asthma |
The Oriental cockroach is a household insect. In homeopathy the whole insect is tinctured. Boericke-type teaching (and Indian pharmacy cards) still sell: asthma, especially with bronchitis and much mucus; better in open air in some accounts; stout, corpulent patients; after Arsenicum has failed as a picture sequence.
It is not azithromycin, not ACT for malaria, and not a proven bronchodilator. The old page claimed antibacterial and antiviral properties and malaria use. Cockroach proteins are allergens; they do not sterilise Plasmodium. Malaria needs a blood film and guideline drugs.
Real-world irony: cockroach allergen in bedrooms is a documented asthma trigger. Pest control, mattress covers and reducing humidity help allergic asthma. A 30C does not replace that, and a Q dropper is not “immunotherapy” you invent at home.
No reliable trial shows Blatta 30 improves peak flow or reduces exacerbations.
Asthma care is inhaled corticosteroid, a reliever, trigger control, and a written plan (asthma page). An attack with one-word sentences, blue lips or a silent chest is 108 / 112.
If someone is using Blatta as a winter “antibiotic alternative,” they are delaying pneumonia care.
Chest. Wheeze with thick, copious, sometimes yellow-green mucus; overweight adult; monsoon or basement damp. Compare Antimonium tart (too weak to raise rattling mucus), Ipecac (nausea with clean-tongue asthma picture), Aspidosperma (want of breath on exertion without much mucus).
Not for. Malaria, tuberculosis, a first-time smoker’s haemoptysis, or anaphylaxis after a cockroach exposure.
| Form | What is in it | Typical use | Repeat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q | Insect extract + alcohol | Not DIY; allergy risk theoretically higher | Prescriber only |
| 30C | Empty | Matching mucus-asthma picture | 3–5 globules, then stop — not instead of the brown inhaler |
| 200C | Empty | Not a stronger steroid | Not daily |
30C. Vehicle; delay. See homeopathy side effects.
Q / material. Insect proteins can theoretically sensitise. Do not experiment.
Pest-control chemicals are a separate toxicity file — ventilate, do not drink them.
