Drosera 30 Uses: Night Cough Picture, Not Pertussis

Drosera rotundifolia 30 is the usual home potency of round-leaved sundew. Homeopaths classically give it for a spasmodic, barking cough in fits, often after midnight, with retching and holding the chest. A properly made 30C contains no measurable plant. Drosera is not pertussis treatment. still uses antibiotics and DTaP / Tdap.

Nightstand with water, tissues, alarm clock, a sundew plant and a vial of white globules

This article is for people searching drosera 30 uses, Drosera for whooping cough, or sundew cough syrup. It is not a substitute for vaccination, a macrolide when pertussis is likely, or emergency care for an infant who stops breathing in a fit.

Drosera at a glance

Also written Drosera, Dros., Drosera 30, Drosera 200

30C / 200C Past ~12C: no measurable plant if manufactured properly

Safety in one line Globules do not replace DTaP, Tdap, or pertussis antibiotics

What Drosera is — and what it is not

Sundew is a bog carnivore. Boericke’s cough is paroxysmal, deep, hoarse, barking, coming in periodic fits; the patient holds the chest; worse after midnight; voice hoarse; may retch or bleed a streak from the strain. Whooping-cough chapters in the old books put Drosera near the top of that picture.

It is not:

  • azithromycin, clarithromycin or erythromycin for pertussis
  • a DTaP or Tdap vaccine
  • an asthma reliever
  • a proven TB or lung-cancer cough drop
  • a reason to skip isolation advice when whooping cough is diagnosed

What the evidence actually says

There is no high-quality trial showing Drosera 30 shortens whooping cough, prevents pneumonia, or stops apnoea in infants.

: start a macrolide (or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) early — ideally in the first 1–2 weeks. Infants, pregnant people near term, and contacts of high-risk people are treated even before lab confirmation when the story fits. Prevention is DTaP in childhood and Tdap, including every pregnancy at 27–36 weeks.

Cough medicines are generally not advised for young children. A globule is not on that algorithm either.

Everything below is classical indication.

What Drosera is classically used for

  • Spasmodic cough in fits. Barking or choking spells, worse lying down, often after midnight, holds the sides or chest. Compare Ipecacuanha (nausea with every cough) and Cina (stiff, irritable child, not the same as worms proven).
  • Hoarse voice after a fit. Boericke: deep, hoarse; larynx as if from talking.
  • Whooping-cough picture. Historical use. Real pertussis still needs a clinician, antibiotics when indicated, and vaccination of the household. See cough and cold.
  • Tickle in the larynx that ends in a violent spasm. Not a reason to ignore asthma or a foreign body.

Drosera 30 vs 200 vs Q

Form What is in it Classically chosen for How it is usually taken Supervision
Herbal sundew / Q Plant naphthoquinones Not a home infant bottle Do not DIY Avoid in babies
6C Trace possible Mild matching tickle Short course After triage
30C No measurable plant if made properly Everyday spasmodic picture A few globules during a fit cluster, then stop Self-care only if a doctor has ruled out danger
200C Empty Deeper paroxysmal picture Single dose, wait Practitioner preferred

A mother tincture is alcohol. Do not put Q on a toddler’s tongue.

How to take Drosera 30

  • Only after you have asked: is this pertussis, croup, asthma, pneumonia, or a swallowed object?
  • Clean mouth; 4–5 globules. Stop when the fits ease. Do not run 30C for weeks as “whooping medicine.”
  • Infants with paroxysms belong in medical care, not a potency ladder. See potency guide.
  • Keep fluids, small meals if vomiting follows cough, and prescribed antibiotics if given.

Side effects — what is real

30C / 200C. Sugar or alcohol vehicle; delay while pertussis spreads is the harm. See side effects.

Q / herb. Not a studied paediatric antitussive. Alcohol load. Do not harvest wild sundew as tea for a baby.

Drosera 30 does not interact with azithromycin. Do not skip the antibiotic because you started globules.

Drosera compared with nearby remedies

Remedy Picture Choose it when
Drosera Fits after midnight, holds chest, barking Spasmodic, whooping-like
Ipecacuanha Constant nausea, clean tongue Cough ends in vomit with relentless nausea
Antimonium tart Rattling, too weak to raise mucus Wet chest in a drowsy patient
Spongia Dry, sawing, croupy, better warm drinks Croup picture — still needs medical rules for stridor
Justicia Paroxysmal Indian cough pictures Different plant; same rule: not pertussis care

When to see a doctor

  • any infant with coughing fits, pauses in breathing, turning blue, or not feeding
  • whoop, post-cough vomit, or known pertussis contact — same-day clinician, not “wait for Drosera”
  • stridor, drooling, or a child who cannot swallow
  • fever with fast breathing, chest in-drawing, or blood in sputum
  • pregnancy with a paroxysmal cough (Tdap and treatment rules apply)
  • household with a newborn — ask about post-exposure antibiotics

At WeClinic we will ask about vaccination dates before we talk sundew. Kanpur clinic. Drosera is a cough picture, not a public-health tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Drosera 30 used for?
Classically, a spasmodic barking cough in fits, often after midnight, with retching and holding the chest. It is not a pertussis antibiotic and not a vaccine.
Can Drosera treat whooping cough?
No as a proven treatment. Pertussis needs early antibiotics when indicated, supportive care, and immunisation. Drosera is a 19th-century *picture* that happens to rhyme with the whoop.
What is the dose of Drosera 30?
A few globules during a cluster of fits is typical self-care only when a doctor has already said the child is safe at home. Stop as spells ease. Do not “complete a course.”
Drosera 30 vs 200 — which for whooping cough?
Neither replaces a macrolide. 200C is more dilute, not stronger medicine. Infants do not belong on a potency experiment.
Is Drosera Q better for cough?
Q is plant plus alcohol. It is not a stronger 30C and not for babies. Use medical cough rules first.
Can I give Drosera to a baby?
Not Q. Not for apnoea, blue spells, or poor feeding. Those are hospital questions. A registered homeopath may discuss 30C only after a paediatrician has seen the child.
Does Drosera replace DTaP or Tdap?
No. schedules still stand: DTaP in infancy and preschool, Tdap in adolescence, adulthood if missed, and every pregnancy at 27–36 weeks.
How long does Drosera take to work?
There is no trial window. If fits worsen, breathing pauses, or an infant is involved, you are already late for globules.
Drosera vs Ipecac for a coughing child?
Ipecac when nausea is the centre and the tongue stays clean. Drosera when the fit and the midnight clock are the centre. Vomiting after a whoop can occur in both — still think pertussis.
Can adults take Drosera 30 for a night cough?
If the spasmodic picture fits and red flags are absent, a short 30C trial is the usual home bottle. Lasting cough still needs examination (asthma, reflux, ACE inhibitors, TB where relevant).
Will Drosera stop the cough of asthma or pneumonia?
No. Those have their own emergency signs. See [asthma](/blog/how-to-treat-breathlessness-with-homeopathy) and [breathlessness](/blog/how-to-treat-breathlessness-with-homeopathy).
Can I take Drosera with prescribed cough or antibiotic medicine?
A 30C has no plausible drug interaction. Do not stop the prescription. Do not stack cough syrups in a toddler.
