Homeopathy for Urticaria: Pictures, Not an Antihistamine

Homeopathic medicine for urticaria is chosen on the welt — Apis when burning-stinging swellings are better for cold, Urtica when it looks like nettle — not as a proven treatment for chronic spontaneous urticaria. First-line care with evidence is a daily second-generation H1 antihistamine (cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine). Hives plus breathing trouble or throat swelling is anaphylaxis: adrenaline and 108, not Apis. A 30C is not omalizumab.

What the evidence actually says

There is no reliable trial that Apis 30 or Urtica urens Q controls CSU like updosed antihistamines or omalizumab.

If you use a 30C at all: a few globules in a matching acute crop while you take the antihistamine. Do not park adrenaline for Apis.

Urtica Q is a material nettle extract plus alcohol — not a 30C.

What actually helps that is not a pellet

• Daily non-drowsy antihistamine as advised; not only “when it itches” for chronic disease.
• Cool cloth; avoid codeine, excess NSAIDs, alcohol if they are your triggers.
• Photograph the weals for the allergist. Keep a drug diary.
• If antihistamines fail, ask about omalizumab, not a higher potency.

Side effects — what is real

When to see a doctor

• trouble breathing, throat/tongue swelling, faint, repeated vomiting — 108 / 112 now; use an epinephrine autoinjector if you have one

• a new medicine started this week (especially antibiotic, NSAID, ACE inhibitor — ACE inhibitors more often cause angioedema without weals)
