Apis Mellifica 30: Hot Stinging Swelling, Not Adrenaline

Apis mellifica 30 is the usual home potency of the honeybee. Homeopaths classically give it for hot, rosy, puffy swellings that sting and burn, worse from heat, better from cold, often with little thirst. A properly made 30C contains no measurable venom. Apis is not adrenaline, antihistamine, or an antibiotic. Throat closing after a sting is 108 / 112.

This article is for people searching apis mellifica 30 uses, Apis for bee sting, or Apis for hives. It is not first aid for anaphylaxis, orbital cellulitis, or a kidney that has stopped making urine.

30C / 200C Past ~12C: no measurable venom if manufactured properly

Main classical uses Hot stinging oedema, hives, some cystitis pictures, right ovarian pain in the old books
Usual home potency 30C after you have ruled out anaphylaxis
Safety in one line Globules do not open an airway

What Apis is — and what it is not

The remedy is made from the bee. The patient is restless, jealous in the mental picture, and hates a closed hot room. Kent emphasises the bag-like puffiness of lids.

It is not:

  • intramuscular adrenaline for anaphylaxis
  • an antihistamine or steroid for giant urticaria
  • a diuretic for nephrotic swelling
  • a fertility drug because old books mention ovaries
  • immunotherapy for bee-sting allergy

What the evidence actually says

There is no reliable trial showing Apis 30 prevents anaphylaxis, shortens cellulitis, or treats nephrotic syndrome.

Sting first aid is still: remove the stinger by scraping if you can see it, wash, cold pack for local pain, adrenaline auto-injector if prescribed for systemic allergy, and emergency care for wheeze, faintness, or swelling of tongue or throat. frames hymenoptera allergy as a workplace and outdoor risk, not a globule problem.

Hives: see urticaria. Itch without airway threat can wait; stridor cannot.

Everything below is classical indication.

What Apis is classically used for

  • Bee and wasp stings that are hot, puffy, stinging, better ice, worse heat. Compare Ledum when the puncture feels cold and pale.

Still not a substitute for adrenaline if the mouth is swelling.

  • Eyelids like water bags; conjunctiva puffy. Red-flag: pain, photophobia, vision change — that may be infection or uveitis, not Apis. See conjunctivitis.
  • Burning urine with scanty drops and stinging, thirstless. Compare Cantharis (frantic cutting along the whole stream). UTI rules still apply — urine infection.
  • Joints that sting and swell rosy, better cold. Not a rheumatoid protocol.
  • Right ovarian pain in Boericke. That is a 19th-century note, not an ultrasound.

Apis 30 vs 200 vs Q vs a real sting

Form What is in it Classically chosen for How it is usually taken Supervision
Live sting / venom Melittin etc. Anaphylaxis risk Never “therapy” at home Emergency if systemic
Q Alcoholic bee extract Not a home bottle Avoid Avoid
6C Trace theoretically Mild local sting picture Short After first aid
30C No measurable venom if made properly Hot stinging puffiness A few globules, then stop Self-care only if breathing is normal
200C Empty Deeper oedema picture Single dose Practitioner preferred

Cold better is a symptom. Ice is not an EpiPen.

How to take Apis 30

  • Airway first. If lips, tongue or breathing change after a sting — adrenaline if prescribed, then emergency services. Do not hunt for globules.
  • Clean mouth; 4–5 globules. Stop when the sting-and-puff eases.
  • Keep prescribed antihistamines or steroids if a clinician gave them.
  • Children: 30C is empty of venom if made properly. Anaphylaxis is still anaphylaxis. No Q.

Side effects — what is real

30C / 200C. Vehicle only. The harm is delay. See homeopathy side effects.

Q or handling bees. Stings, allergy, alcohol. People with known venom anaphylaxis should not “desensitise” themselves with a hive.

Apis 30 does not block adrenaline. Never wait for a pellet if you need the pen.

Apis compared with nearby remedies

Remedy Picture Choose it when
Apis Hot, rosy, stinging, better cold, thirstless Heat-worse puffiness
Ledum Cold, pale puncture, better cold Mosquito/nail, icy part
Urtica Itching hives, little oedema Nettle-like itch more than bags of water
Cantharis Cutting burning urine, frantic urging Urinary scald, not puffy lids
Rhus tox Restless, vesicular, better motion Poison-ivy type, not bee-hot

When to see a doctor

  • swelling of lips, tongue, or throat; wheeze; faintness; widespread hives after a sting — now
  • sting inside the mouth, multiple stings, or known venom allergy without a pen
  • red streaking, fever, or a joint that is hot after a sting (infection)
  • eyelid swelling with fever or vision change
  • little urine, puffy legs, and breathlessness (medical oedema, not Apis)
  • burning urine with fever or loin pain

WeClinic will not treat anaphylaxis with Apis. Kanpur page. If you carry an auto-injector, use it first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Apis mellifica 30 used for?
Classically, hot, stinging, puffy swellings that improve with cold — bee stings, some hives, baggy lids. It is not adrenaline and not an antibiotic.
Can Apis replace an EpiPen after a bee sting?
No. Airway swelling, wheeze or collapse is intramuscular adrenaline and emergency care. Apis 30 is not on that pathway.
Apis vs Ledum for a sting?
Apis: hot, rosy, stinging, hates heat. Ledum: cold, pale, puncture-like. Anaphylaxis does not care which rhyme you pick.
What is the dose of Apis 30?
A few globules after local first aid, then stop. Repeat only if the same hot-sting picture returns and breathing is easy.
Is Apis Q stronger?
Q is bee extract in alcohol. 30C is not. Do not drink Q as sting first aid.
Can Apis treat a UTI?
Only as a classical stinging, scanty, thirstless picture. Fever, loin pain or pregnancy still need a urine work-up. See [Cantharis](/blog/cantharis-uses).
Is Apis safe for children?
30C has no realistic venom if made properly. Children still die of anaphylaxis. Q is alcohol. Do not dose a wheezing toddler from this page.
Does Apis help kidney swelling?
Nephrotic syndrome, heart failure and angioedema of the tongue are medical diagnoses. Globules do not make urine.
How long does Apis take to work?
No trial window. If swelling spreads toward the mouth or breathing changes, you needed adrenaline minutes ago.
Can I ice an Apis swelling?
Cold better is the keynote. A cold pack on a local sting is reasonable first aid. Do not ice a limb into numbness, and do not ice instead of calling emergency services.
Apis vs Urtica for hives?
Urtica is nettle-like itch with less baggy oedema. Apis is puffy, stinging, heat-intolerant. See [itching](/blog/how-to-treat-itching-with-homeopathy).
Can I take Apis with antihistamines?
Yes at 30C — nothing to interact with. Do not stop a prescribed antihistamine or steroid for a globule.
