Conium 30 Uses: Vertigo, Hard Glands, Hemlock Risk
Conium 30 is the usual home potency of poison hemlock (Conium maculatum). Homeopaths classically give it for vertigo worse on turning in bed or turning the head, and for hard, enlarged glands after a bruise. A properly made 30C contains no measurable coniine. The fresh plant, herbal tea and mother tincture can paralyse breathing. Conium does not treat cancer.

What Conium is — and what it is not
Poison hemlock is the plant of Socrates’ execution. Hollow stems with purple blotches, ferny leaves, white umbels, a mousy smell. Every part is toxic.: do not treat hemlock ingestion at home.
Boericke uses that ascending paralysis as a metaphor for the old, weak, slow picture: hard glands, vertigo on turning, bruised feeling, urinary dribbling, sexual debility of age. He also wrote “cancerous diathesis.” That is 1901 materia medica language. It is not oncology.
Retail pages that say Conium Q “cures tumours” are dangerous. Indian law does not allow advertising a drug as a cancer cure. We will not either.
It is not:
- a treatment for breast, prostate, lymph-node or any other cancer
- a substitute for mammogram, ultrasound, FNAC or biopsy
- a vertigo drug that replaces HINTS exam, ECG or stroke pathway

What the evidence actually says
There is no reliable trial that Conium 30 shrinks malignant glands, treats BPPV, or reverses prostate enlargement.
Hemlock poisoning is the opposite literature: nausea, salivation, then weakness, paralysis, respiratory failure, sometimes rhabdomyolysis and kidney injury. Onset often 60–90 minutes, sometimes delayed to four hours (Cureus / PMC case reviews). That is the plant, not 30C.
What Conium is classically used for
- Vertigo on turning. Worse lying down, turning over in bed, turning the head or eyes sideways. Room or bed seems to spin. This is a famous keynote. It is still not a diagnosis. BPPV, orthostatic drop, anaemia, cardiac arrhythmia and stroke mimics exist. See vertigo.
- Hard glands after a blow. Axilla painful with numbness down the arm; breasts or nodes that indurate after contusion. A bruise that stays as a hard lump still needs a clinician if it does not melt on a known timeline.
- Old, slow, weak. Morning debility, trembling, difficult gait — Boericke’s ageing picture. Falls still need bone and neuro assessment.
- Interrupted urine stream. Old books. Prostate symptoms in a man over 50 need a urologist, not Conium Q.

Only after dizziness has been thought through (BP, sugars, cardiac symptoms, focal neurology) and after a lump has a medical plan.
- 30C: a few globules, then wait. Do not repeat daily for weeks because a node is still there.
- 200C: not a daily gland tonic.
- Never crush wild hemlock “to make a tincture.”
