Silicea (silica, Silicea terra) is flint or quartz, triturated with lactose. Homeopaths classically give it when every little injury suppurates, abscesses are slow and unfinished, splinters will not come out, nails are brittle, and the person is chilly, sweaty-headed, and lacks grit. It is nicknamed the “homeopathic surgeon’s knife.” That nickname is folklore. Incision and drainage still drain pus. Silicea is not a TB drug and not an implant magnet.

This article is for people searching silicea 6x uses, Silicea 30, or Silicea 200 for boils and nails. It is not a plan for a facial carbuncle, a diabetic foot, or a child with a stiff neck and a node.

| Main classical uses | Slow boils, fistulous tracts, splinters, brittle nails, chilly sweaters |
| Keynote | Promotes expulsion of foreign bodies; every hurt festers |
| Usual home potency | 6X biochemic for nails/skin; 30C for a picture; 200C not daily |

Silicon dioxide is sand-and-quartz chemistry. Boericke: related to all fistulous burrowings; ripens abscesses; promotes expulsion of foreign bodies; every little injury suppurates; offensive pus; chilly patient who hugs the fire yet may sweat the head; crippled nails; keloids; “after impure vaccination.”
It is not a collagen supplement, not a hair-growth mineral in milligrams, and not DOTS for tuberculous lymphadenitis — even though older Indian clinic series sometimes added Silicea beside standard TB care. Standard TB care is not optional.
A bottle labelled Silicea Q is mislabelled. Silica does not dissolve in ethanol the way a leaf does.
There is no high-quality RCT showing that Silicea 6X extrudes splinters, replaces incision of an abscess, or treats osteomyelitis.
Boils that are large, facial, or in people with diabetes still follow surgical and antibiotic rules. Do not squeeze. See skin rashes / infection red flags rather than a potency chart.
Not for: hot facial cellulitis, septic joints, or a BCG-site mess you have not shown a doctor.
| Form | What is in it | Classically chosen for | How it is usually taken | Supervision |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6X / 12X | Trace silica plus lactose | Indian biochemic nails, “immunity,” slow skin | 4 tablets, 3 times daily, time-limited | Review date |
| 30C | No measurable silica | Acute boil/splinter picture | A few globules, then stop | If fever, see a doctor |
| 200C / 1M | Empty | Constitutional chilly/suppurative | Single dose, wait | Homeopath |
| “Silicea Q” | Mislabelled | — | Avoid | Avoid |
Open-ended daily 6X “for immunity” is a lactose habit, not an immunology protocol. See tissue salts.
| What people fear | What is actually true |
|---|---|
| Silicosis from 6X | Not from a lactose trituration |
| “It will pull out my IUD / implant / plates” | Folklore. Foreign-body keynote is splinters in tissue, not a reason to fear contraception |
| Interaction at 30C | None plausible |
| Delay | The harm that matters in abscess and TB nodes |
| Remedy | Stage | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Hepar sulph | Acute, about to burst, chilly, touchy | Splinter pain, wants heat |
| Silicea | Slow, fistulous, unfinished | Foreign body, chilly sweater |
| Calcarea sulph | Yellow pus freely discharging | After the boil has opened |
| Graphites | Sticky honey eczema in folds | Not a boil remedy first |
| Hecla lava | Jaw bone and sockets | Dental, not skin boil |
