Calcarea sulphurica 6X is a biochemic tissue salt of calcium sulphate (gypsum). Homeopaths and Schuessler pharmacists give it when thick yellow pus lingers after a boil, pimple or discharge has already opened. It is not a plant, not plaster of Paris you swallow, and not an antibiotic. Spreading redness, fever or a facial boil still need a doctor.

What the evidence says

There is no reliable trial that Calcarea sulphurica 6X or 30C treats acne, abscess, sinusitis or a discharging ear.

Acne care that has guidelines is topical retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, sometimes antibiotics or isotretinoin. A boil that is spreading is incision and antibiotics territory, not a tissue salt.

What Calc sulph is classically used for

Boericke: pus with a vent — the later stage of suppuration, yellow and lumpy, slow to heal once opened. Contrast Hepar sulph: Hepar is before it opens, exquisitely sharp, chilly, wants a wrap. Calc sulph is after, still pouring yellow.

Acne with yellow heads that crust and linger. Colds with thick yellow post-nasal gunk. Wounds that keep a yellow wick. Ears and lids in the same yellow-discharge lists.

It is not a calcium supplement for bones, a joint-rebuild salt, or a gonorrhoea drug because 19th-century texts mentioned pus.

Modalities often listed: dislikes warm wraps, prefers open air, may crave sour / unripe fruit; worse for milk and getting wet. Use them as picture-match, not as diet science.

• Common adult tissue-salt direction: a few tablets, dissolved, a few times a day while the yellow-discharge picture is present, then stop.
• 30C: 3–5 globules once or twice, then stop.
• Children: a doctor sees feverish, facial, or orbital infection first. No alcohol dilutions in infants.
• Lactose intolerance: tablets are milk sugar.

Side effects

From 12C up: no gypsum poisoning. 6X: bloating from lactose; delay while cellulitis spreads. Calc sulph 30 does not interact with blood thinners as calcium sulphate — there is almost none in a 30C.
