Symphytum 30: Bone Injury Picture, Not Comfrey Tea

Symphytum officinale 30 is the usual home potency of comfrey (“knitbone”). Homeopaths classically give it when bone is broken, bruised, or non-uniting, and for blunt injury to the eyeball. A properly made 30C contains no measurable pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Comfrey tea, capsules, root and mother tincture can wreck the liver.: oral comfrey causes sinusoidal obstruction syndrome. The FDA asked firms to remove oral comfrey in 2001. Symphytum 30 is not a cast, not IM nailing, and not an ophthalmology exam.

This article is for people searching symphytum 30 uses, Symphytum for fracture, or comfrey tea for bones. It is not permission to walk on an untreated fracture or to drink knitbone.

Symphytum at a glance

Item Detail
Botanical Symphytum officinale L. — comfrey, knitbone
Also written Symphytum, Symph., Symphytum 30
Crude toxins Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (symphytine, lycopsamine, echimidine…)
30C / 200C No measurable PA if made properly
Tea / capsules / Q / root Oral use unsafe — hepatic SOS / VOD
Main classical uses Fractures, periosteum, blunt globe, phantom pain after amputation pictures
Usual home potency 30C after the bone is imaged and splinted
Safety in one line Do not drink comfrey. Globules are not hardware

What Symphytum is — and what it is not

Boericke: pricking, stitching in the periosteum; fractures; irritable stump; eye after a blow (orbital, not a scratched cornea only). It sits after Arnica (soft tissue) and Ruta (tendon/periosteum) when the bone is the story.

It is not:

  • a reason to skip X-ray
  • BMP, vitamin D, or teriparatide for non-union
  • safe herbal tea “to knit”
  • a retinal-detachment repair

What the evidence actually says

There is no RCT that Symphytum 30 shortens time-to-union.

Do not take oral comfrey. Topical PA-reduced creams exist in some countries for muscle pain; broken skin and long use remain a caution. Do not put a village comfrey poultice on an open fracture.

Fracture care is still immobilisation, reduction, surgery when indicated, and tetanus for open injuries.

Everything about 30C is classical indication.

What Symphytum 30 is classically used for

  • Fractures — after imaging — lingering periosteal ache. Not a licence to remove the cast.
  • Non-union talk in old books. Real non-union needs an orthopaedic opinion (smoking, infection, hardware).
  • Blunt eye. Pain in the globe after a ball or fist. Same-day ophthalmology if vision changes, flashes, or the eye cannot move. Globules later, if at all.
  • Phantom stump pain as a picture. Pain clinics exist.

30C vs Q vs tea vs cast

Form PAs Use Risk
Tea / capsules / root Yes Don’t Liver failure
Q Yes (alcohol extract) Not a bone tonic Same PA risk
Topical village poultice Possible Not on open bone Infection + PA
30C None if made properly Matching periosteal picture Delay of reduction
Cast / ORIF — Actual bone care As surgeon advised

How to take Symphytum 30

  • Image first. Splint first.
  • Then 4–5 globules if the bone-bruise picture fits, then stop.
  • Keep vitamin D if deficient — that is chemistry that matters. See vitamin D.
  • Never “boost” with tea.

Side effects

30C. Vehicle. Side effects.

Oral comfrey / Q. Abdominal pain, ascites, liver failure — emergency.

Symphytum compared with nearby remedies

Remedy Tissue Choose it when
Symphytum Bone, globe after blunt trauma After the film

Ruta Tendon, periosteum, eye strain Overuse, not a shaft fracture
Bellis Deep viscera Pelvis/abdomen
Hypericum Nerve crush Shooting, fingertips

When to see a doctor

  • deformity, open bone, numbness, or a cold foot
  • child who will not use a limb
  • eye blow with vision change
  • jaundice, swelling of the belly after comfrey tea
  • fracture in a person on steroids or with cancer (pathological fracture)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Symphytum 30 used for?
Classically, fractures and periosteal pain after the bone is aligned, and blunt injury to the eyeball as a picture. It is not a cast.
Can I drink comfrey tea to heal a break?
No. Oral comfrey is hepatotoxic.
Is Symphytum Q stronger for bones?
Stronger as **PA exposure**, not as a 30C. Do not take Q to “knit.”
What is the dose of Symphytum 30?
A few globules after imaging and immobilisation, then stop. Daily Q is how livers fail.
Symphytum vs Arnica after a fall?
Arnica: sore muscle, bed too hard. Symphytum: bone and globe. You may need both pictures at different times — and an X-ray either way.
Does Symphytum 30 contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids?
A properly made 30C should not. Tea, root and Q can.
Can Symphytum treat a black eye?
After you know the globe is intact. Vision change is ophthalmology, not 200C.
How long does Symphytum take to work?
Bones take weeks regardless. Non-union at 3 months is orthopaedics.
Is topical comfrey cream the same as 30C?
No. Some PA-reduced creams are licensed abroad for strains. They are still not 30C, and not for broken skin over a fracture.
Is Symphytum safe in pregnancy?
Skip tea, Q, root. Fractures in pregnancy are obstetric-orthopaedic. 30C is empty of PA if made properly.
Can children take Symphytum 30?
After a paediatric fracture plan. Never tea. Never Q.
Will Symphytum replace surgery for a displaced fracture?
No.
